Her name echoes a creature from Basque mythology — half-human, half-animal — who lives in forests, caves, and near streams. Much like this mythical figure, Lamina evolves within a nocturnal, organic, and ever-shifting sonic universe, shaped by inner landscapes where raw textures, liquid effects, and field recordings intertwine. Her work is rooted in a deeply ecofeminist approach, particularly inspired by hydrofeminism, a philosophy that regards water as a force of connection, memory, and transformation. Water, a recurring element in her compositions, becomes a carrier of emotional and sensorial resonance, a living material with which she engages in dialogue. Her pieces form imaginary sound ecosystems that are fluid and vulnerable, inviting sensitive and introspective experiences. Lamina has released her music on labels such as Complex Holidays, Mus Joutra, Wabi-Sabi, Orila, and Mappa, and recently released her first vinyl record on Twin System. Many of his compositions are founded on abstract, glitchy, sometimes complex electronic percussion. Harmonic and melodic influences come from classical music (modern classical music, musique concrète, holy minimalism, micropolyphony, baroque music, etc.), ambient music, drone music, Berlin school synthesizer music, ethnic music and free improvisation. Rhythms are derived from minimal techno, dub, glitch, industrial music and IDM, and are often aligned around a 4/4 beat. The more recent works, such as his latest album The Etna Sessions (2024), no longer include electronic beats. The album, which contains field recordings made in situ in the Parco dell'Etna and later processed and complemented with an array of analog and digital tools, exists at the intersection of cosmic drone, dark ambient, vaporous dub and minimalist techno. He is considered one of the pioneers of experimental and contemporary approaches in the region. With a foundation rooted in classical composition and vocal artistry, her works are born from the fusion of her synesthetic experiences and her upbringing within a lineage of shamans, resulting in her unique and boundary-defying sound. PYUR debuted with the full-length AV album Epoch Sinus (2016), which eschewed distinctions between the visual and the sonic to reveal their underlying energetic substrate. Shortly after PYUR performed on Stockhausen’s Oktophonie for Berlin Atonal, earning a return to the iconic Kraftwerk months later for a Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester commission with PAN’s Valerio Tricoli. With BEAM TEAM, she has created several interactive AV installations. Urša Čuk (1986) is a self-employed video artist and cultural worker. He pioneered a blend of ambient and rock, recording acclaimed albums such as Wave Field (1998). In 2004, he launched the alien-sounding Space Program, an ambitious long-term project exploring electronic music based on silence and inspired by post-free jazz. The resulting music, “melodic without notes, rhythmic with no beat, familiar but strange, meticulous but radically free – riddled with paradox but full of clarity and space”, has been described as “a brand of electronic music far more visceral and emotive than that of his cerebral peers”. A soundtrack that doesn't require a film!” ︎︎︎ Mladina Stamor is a new ambient project by Slovenian musician and producer Jan Bajc Funa aka .čunfa, whose debut album The Absurd (2024) is described as “a homage to Albert Camus and his absurdism”. Bajc has channeled his love for minor-key riffs and ominous metal ambience into The Stamor project. It seems as if instrumental parts usually used as introductions or interludes on a post-metal record represent the essence of his expression. The pensive guitar tones are not followed by blast beats, downtuned riffage and unholy growls, but rather they are expanded with synthesised bass lines, ritualistic percussion, gothic synths and hypnotic field recordings. His expression is reminiscent of Burzum’s dungeon synth releases, Earth’s cosmic drones and, at times, Muslimgauze’s mystical chants. SHAPE+ is a platform for innovative music and audiovisual art from Europe. SHAPE+ is a European platform for innovative music and art. It is artist-oriented, and, every year, it creates a selection of &nbsp;exceptional emerging talent via open call and curatorial voting, to then foster their careers with performance invitations, collaborative residencies, commissions, seminars and networking events. SHAPE+ consists of&nbsp;non-profit venues and festivals, and&nbsp;is co-funded by the European Union and, as of July 2024, Pro Helvetia. SHAPE+ currently consists of 18 partners in 18 countries with plans for further expansion, while adopting an interdisciplinary approach and committing to social and environmental awareness. SHAPE+ aims to support, promote and exchange innovative and aspiring musicians and interdisciplinary artists with an interest in sound. SHAPE+ objavlja končni seznam izvajalcev in novo spletno kompilacijo Platforma SHAPE+ za inovativno glasbo in interdisciplinarno umetnost zaključuje obdobje, ki sta ga financirala EU in Pro Helvetia. Pred vstopom v fazo razvoja novih projektov in izbire nadaljnjih ciljev se vrača z zadnjo sezono - petmesečnim obdobjem promocije kolektivno izbranega seznama 18 vzhajajočih in eksperimentalnih umetnikov. SHAPE je bil ustanovljen leta 2014, leta 2022 pa se je preoblikoval v SHAPE+ in se do trenutnega delovnega obdobja razširil v skupnost 18 naprednih evropskih festivalov. Seznam umetnikov so vsako leto kolektivno oblikovali kuratorji festivalov članic. Ob 21. uri sledijo nastopi Hassana Khana, Murcofa in premiera rezidence SONICA x SHAPE+ 2025 s PYUR in Beam Team. Egiptovski umetnik in glasbenik Hassan Khan bo predstavil ozadje svojega projekta algoritemsko generirane hip-hop glasbe, The Infinite Hip-Hop Song Live! (Neskončna hip-hop pesem v živo). Gre za algoritemski generator hip-hopa, ki iz vnaprej pripravljenih besedil, vokalov, ritmov, basov in melodij ustvarja neskončne hip-hop komade. Ne gre le za algoritmično branje ali posnemanje znanih pesmi, niti za zlorabo generičnih žanrskih elementov, pač pa virtualni stroj, ki ga poganja človeška sila. Mehiški veteran ambientalne glasbe Murcof bo ponudil vpogled v ozadje projekta The Etna Sessions. Aktualni album, ki je zrasel iz terenskih posnetkov iz italijanskega nacionalnega parka Parco dell'Etna (ti so bili pozneje obdelani in dopolnjeni z vrsto analognih ter digitalnih orodij), obstaja na presečišču kozmičnega drona, dark ambienta, meglenega duba in techno minimalizma. Vulkanska glasba! Letošnji program prinaša tri festivalske večere v Klubu CD, Cukrarni in Kinu Šiška, festivalski preddogodek z AV programom v Slovenski kinoteki in razstavo v +MSUM-u. Napovedujemo nastop britanskega kralja basovske muzike The Buga, ki k nam prihaja z aktualno dvojno ploščo apokaliptičnih industrial dub instrumentalov Machine (Relapse, 2024), slovensko premiero japonske futuristične black metal/techno/industrial senzacije Violent Magic Orchestra (»Aphex Twin s corpse paintom«), predstavitev mojstrovine Spectral Evolution (2024) portugalskega kitarskega virtuoza Rafaela Torala, AV šov mehiškega veterana ambientalne glasbe Murcofa ter igrivi performans The Infinite Hip-Hop Song Live! egipčanskega umetnika in glasbenika Hassana Khana, prejemnika srebrnega leva na beneškem bienalu leta 2017. Tokratna edicija vključuje tudi nastopa madžarskega zvočnega maga iz vrst založbe Planet Mu, Gáborja Lázárja, in samosvoje poljske multiinstrumentalistke in pevke Antonine Nowacke (SHAPE+) ter premiero SONICA x SHAPE+ rezidence 2025, ki nastaja v sodelovanju med nemško elektronsko producentko PYUR (SHAPE+) in Stello Ivšek ter Uršo Čuk iz domačega multidisciplinarnega umetniškega kolektiva Beam Team. Slovenski glasbenik/producent Jan Bajc Funa, znan tudi kot .čunfa, bo prvič v živo z bendom predstavil svoj nov projekt Stamor. Domači elektronski as Nitz se bo predstavil s posebnim performansom Konstante minevanja, živo ambientalno glasbeno spremljavo ob projekciji eksperimentalnih filmov slovenskega filmarja Vaska Preglja, zasavski ambasador eksperimentalnega techna in temačnega ambienta Lifecutter bo v AV formatu predstavil svoj nov album DELUGE (Kamizdat, 2025). Za epski zaključek festivala bo odgovoren ljubljanski techno šefe Shekuza, ki napoveduje dvourno seanso hipnotične tehnaže. Festivalsko dogajanje bomo zagnali 1. aprila z odprtjem razstave slovenske umetnice Vesna Petresin v +MSUM-u, ki mu bo sledil nastop hrvaške glasbenice in zvočne umetnice tonote (SHAPE+). Hitro prevrtimo 59 let naprej in mantra, ki se zdi bolj primerna za našo distopijo v nastajanju, ki jo dodatno spodbuja pospešen razvoj umetne inteligence,&nbsp;bi lahko bila: »Turn on your mind, be active, and float upstream«.&nbsp;To še posebej velja za vse tiste, ki skušate osmisliti resničnost v času, ko se zdi, da nič več nima smisla. Razpeti med takimi in drugačnimi pretoki (‘streami’) v živo, med spletnim pretakanjem glasbe in filmov na Netflixu, med mainstream in alternativno glasbo ter mainstream in antipolitiko – da ne omenjamo številnih kulturnih protitokov – je človeštvo že leta obsedeno z enim samim ciljem: kako optimizirati vsak vidik našega obstoja. Neusmiljeno stremimo k učinkovitosti in isčemo načine, kako poenostaviti svoje delovne procese ter sakdanje rutine. A pozabljamo na nekaj bistvenega. Umetnost se je v tem procesu nenačrtovano spremenila v vsebino, ‘content’, umetniki v ustvarjalce vsebin, transformativne glasbene izkušnje pa so postale zgolj statistični podatki v mesečnih poročilih pretočnih platform. Skoraj vsak vidik našega kulturnega življenja je bil kvantificiran, kar je temeljito spremenilo način, kako doživljamo umetnost, in hkrati vplivalo na samo bistvo sodobne kulture in obstoj umetnikov. Navigacija v svetu, kjer je spletno pretakanje postalo osrednji način odkrivanja in doživljanja kulture, ni lahka naloga. Prav tako postaja vse težje najti pomen in smisel v sodobni kulturi ali deliti zares pomenljive umetniške izkušnje z drugimi. Čeprav večina tiho nasprotuje tej utesnjujoči realnosti, je bilo le malo odpora proti obstoječemu modelu – izjema so bolj glasni in aktivni deli glasbene scene, kot je Liz Pelly s svojo prelomno knjigo The Ghosts in the Machine (2025). Po drugi strani festivali – slavnostna zbirališča, ki v fizičnih prostorih oblikujejo začasne skupnosti – ostajajo eno najmočnejših prizorišč za pomembne kulturne izkušnje. Ponujajo prostor za glasbena odkritja in človeške povezave, kjer se srečujejo novi in stari obrazi ter se o umetnosti razpravlja v živo in ne zgolj na spletu. Tukaj se umešča tudi SONICA – kot skupina ljudi, ki jih združuje strast do deljenja vznemirljivih zvokov in prostorov ter iskanje pomenljivih skupnih poslušalskih in drugih izkušenj. Festival vidimo kot bežen trenutek v času, ko se lahko popolnoma predamo tem edinstvenim doživetjem – ustvarjanju hrupa in estetskim impulzom, ki nam pomagajo globlje in temeljiteje razumeti naš čas in prostor. S temo letošnje izdaje, -STREAM, SONICA osvetljuje eno osrednjih vprašanj sodobne glasbene kulture. Ali bomo lahko ostali nad gladino in se uspešno usmerjali med neštetimi ‘streami’, ki nas vlečejo v različne smeri? Bi lahko bil protistrup kulturni spletnega pretakanja ponovno ovrednotenje vloge žive glasbe? Kako lahko znova uvedemo kontekst kot ključen element pri ustvarjanju, distribuciji in uživanju kulture? Ali obstaja dokončen odgovor na vprašanje, kako bi morali konzumirati glasbo, film in umetnost na način, ki služi tako umetnikom kot občinstvu? Glasba je v prvi vrsti odvisna od konteksta, in vsak letošnji gost izhaja iz določenega glasbenega okolja, estetske tradicije in ustvarjalne mreže. S svojo 17. edicijo SONICA slavi lepoto povezovanja umetnikov in občinstev ter ustvarjanja minljivih trenutkov, ki lahko pustijo trajen pečat.
